Makalu Base Camp & Sherpani pass one of the most fascinating and adventurous trek with a traverse of high passes crossing Tutu-la and Shipton la at over 4, 200 meters passes and towards Everest region traverse of Sherpani col pass.
Makalu Base Camp & Sherpani pass adventure starts from the small airstrip at Tumlingtar on the warm sub-tropic area on the shelf of Arun River, this awesome trek concludes at Lukla the gateway to Everest and Khumba area,
the trek is moderate  in the beginning and to adventurous where strong hikers and trekkers and mountaineers can join in this wonderful walking journey and the time duration taking just a little more than two weeks in the comfort of warm cozy camping along the route. 
Makalu Base Camp & Sherpani pass is the least visited destination as it is located in the Far North East Himalaya of Khumbakarna range of mountains east to Everest and west from Kanchenjunga range, one of the most unique journeys leading from mediterranean of mid hills to arctic landscapes and climate zone, all these drastic change in temperature found only in the high valleys and mountains of high hills and valleys of southern Himalaya area with dramatic change in vegetations and its awesome scenery.
This trek leads through many traditional Rai, Gurung, Sherpa villages famous as mountaineers and warm hospitality and has been a high altitude porters and guides since last five decades.
This remarkable trek starts from Tumlingtar town the gateway to Makalu, Everest and Kanchenjunga area and then over to amazing Barun Valley and to Sherson, with rest day for proper acclimatization and then heading higher to Makalu Base Camp through the scenic spot at Sherson with tremendous views overlooking top world’s highest peaks from Everest, Lhotse, Makalu to Khumbukarna range of mountains then over the high Tutula and Shipton- la  to reach our destination at world’s 5th highest Mountain base camp at 5, 120 meters and then climb up to view points for more panorama, and then slowly heading over 5, 600 meters pass over Sherpani and Amphu Labtsa pass to reach the other side of the valley of Imjatse in Everest area and then ending this amazing adventure at scenic valley at Khumbu valley and to Lukla for the scenic sweeping short flight back to Kathmandu for your international flight after a memorable time with Solukhumbu Treks & Expedition trekking Makalu Base Camp & Sherpani Pass.
Day 01:                Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:       Fly to Tumlingtar 950m and drive to Num 1,500m - 05 hours.
Day 03:       Trek to Sedua 1,493m. - 05 hours.
Day 04:       Trek to Tashi Gaon 2,200m - 04 hours.
Day 05:       Trek to Kohma Danda 3,500m - 05 hours
Day 06:       Trek to Mumbuk 3,400m - 06 hours.
Day 07:       Trek to Nehe Kharka 3,750m - 06 hours.

Day 01:      Meet in Kathmandu after arrival from international flight.
Rendezvous in Kathmandu where you will be joined with other members of the trekking team on reaching respective hotels, our guide or group leader will brief information regarding your trekking with do’s and don’ts.
Day 02:      Fly to Tumlingtar 40 minutes flight and drive to Num 1,500 m.
Early morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for the super scenic flight to Tumlingtar to start the adventure to Makalu base camp with awesome panorama views array of snow capped mountains from Ganesh-Langtang-Jugal Himal, Gaurishanker, Numbur and Mt. Everest with Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu after this short flight of 40 minutes reaching at Tumlingtar in the warm sub-tropical area, located on a plateau above Arun River with views of Mt. Makalu.
From Tumlingtar starting the morning with a scenic interesting drive heading to the mid hills passing many farm villages and the large town of Khandbari, drive continues on the hill ridge rough dirt road leading higher to Chinchela village from here a long descend to Num village slowly turning into a town with the motor reaching this village few years back, at Num overnight in lodge or in tents with grand views of surrounding landscapes and peaks of Jalajala Himal and Makalu.
Day 03:                Trek to Sedua 1,493m - 05 hours.
Today a first day walk which is a moderate day but with downs and ups to Sedua village, starting with a steep descend to the bridge over raging Arun River around this place quite tropical, and then with a climb towards farm fields and small villages of Runmura, here with lunch break and then with a gradual climb to reach overnight stop at Sedua village, a small place with primary school and small  health post with views of Num across the ridge and of other adjoining hills of Bhojpur and Jalajala rocky peaks.
Day 04:                Trek to Tashi Gaon 2,200m - 04 hours.
After Sedua village, morning walk is quite gentle on undulating winding trail to Tashigaon a Sherpa village, the last village for many days till we get back after Makalu base camp trek, walking through farm areas with terraces of millet, a major crops after rice and wheat’s of this area, and then for 3-4 hours of good trek reaching at Tashigaon for lunch and overnight camp with time to visit the local village around, which is quite interesting. The Sherpa of this area is quite different to Khumbu highlanders.
Day 05:                Trek to Kohma Danda 3,500m - 05 hours
Leaving the last village of Tashigaon, morning walk leads to a gradual path into dense forest of rhododendron, oaks and tall pines trees passing many cattle herder’s temporary shelters of shades and stone huts after few hours of pleasant walk stopping for lunch on the grassy meadow and summer pasture ground.
Afternoon with a steep climb for 2-3 hours to reach the Kohma ridge top, slowly the tall trees give away for smaller rhododendron and juniper bushes and small birch trees. This high ridge offers excellent views of Kanchenjunga mountain range and of Mt. Makalu and adjoining peaks, from here in complete wilderness for week.
Day 06:                Trek to Mumbuk 3,400m - 06 hours.
From Kohma danda morning walk leads on the ridge line on a plateau like landscapes follows gradual path with few ups and down reaching at icy ponds of Thulo Pokhari (big pond) with Sano Pokhari(small pond) after crossing Tutu-la and Shipton la at over 4, 200 meters passes. Probably a lunch break here in this isolated surrounding, and then heading downhill reaching the tree lines of dense forest with views of Khumbakarna Himal range of mountains towards north, overnight camp on finding a level ground in the midst of tall tree lines.
Day 07:                Trek to Nehe Kharka 3,750m - 06 hours.
Today walks leads to unique Barun valley for its rare species of vegetation and plants and for other flora-fauna, starting with a descend for an hour and crossing a small stream to reach the valley floor, the walk is on gentle up slope with views of unnamed peaks on the both side of this valley passing few Sheppard’s shelters and a small Buddhist Gompa (monastery) built out of stones and muds from the soil of this area. After a good walk of 5-6 hours reaching at Nehe Kharka for overnight camp in the middle of Barun valley.
Day 08:                Trek to Sherson 4,600m - 05 hours.
From Barun valley walking to reach at Sehrson at the end of the North West valley near Makalu base camp our highlight and goal of this wonderful adventure, the walk is on gentle up slopes through few vegetations of bushes of dwarf rhododendron, juniper and crossing streams with great views ahead of Mt. Makalau and Barntse peaks and after a nice walk of 5 hours reaching at our destination at Sherson for two nights camp. Here a pasture land of villages from Novagaon and Tashigaon area.

Day 09:                At Sherson for a hike to Makalu base camp 5,120 m.
Here beneath the towering Makalu and Baruntse peaks at 7,220 meters with peak 4. Today a hike in the morning leaving the camp at Sherson for few hours to reach our destination to Makalu base camp with closer view of Mt. Makalu, Barun Pokhari and the view of the rare face of Everest the Kanshung face with Lhotse nearby, an hour of steep up brings you to the large meadow where you can walk further up to have a greater view of the peaks of this area and beyond. After an enjoyable moment with picturesque scenery of mountains that encircles this spot and returning back to camp at Sherson.
Day 10:      Trek to High Makalu Base Camp 4,800 m - 03 hrs.
From here onwards to a real and extreme adventure climbing higher to a remote isolated area towards higher Makalu base camp, after a climb of three hours to Barun glacier snout, near to its glacial pond, and then reaching Makalu high camp on the moraine of rocks and ice, here rest and preparation for the next hard climb.
Day 11:      Trek to High Camp at 5,200 m  - 04 hrs.
After a nice rest in this camp today another great day with climb leading westwards beneath the towering Makalu  Western Pillar, from this point taking cautiously  with the altitude gain on this high area, trek and climb follows to an valley ablation to the west side of glacier from Barun peak, then trekking into a small valley through glacier to make our own trail over the boulder of rocks and ice with strewn ice caves and then setting up the camp, this spot is also called Puja Camp below towering Mt. Makalu's West Pillar.
Day 12:      Climb to Camp at 5,700 m - 04 hrs.
From here after a good rest, leaving the Puja camp follows a steady hard climb to a rocky ridge line to Barun peak west end, and then a climb to a row of cairns reaching at Sherpani Col a glacial valley for overnight camp and lunch, afternoon preparation for next day crossing of ultimate Sherpani Col pass.
Day 13:      Camp on the Moraine 5,640m after crossing Sherpani Pass.
Today final assault and a big day, starting the journey before dawn heading with flashlights / torch lights,, making our own path to the Sherpani glacier icy snout to reach three individual Col's providing entrée to the cirque, then choosing the most suitable and reachable routes, climb follows on steep snow covered slope, with fixed ropes back-up, where our expert guide have fixed on the previous afternoon time, from this Col or pass all rope up to get cross the glacier on the rocky ridge of  Sherpani West Col. This striking cirque is covered by icy ridges to the north of Baruntse's glaciers, offering views of Makalu, the wall of Chamlang to the south and majestic towering peak of Ama Dablam in the west direction.
After a hard day of arduous climb descending from the Col on fixed rope lines towards Hongu Glacier, and completing this long day with a good walk over snow slopes beneath the moraines near at Baruntse base camp for overnight camp.
Day 14:      Trek to Panch Pokhari 5,480 m - 05 hrs.
From this isolated camp, morning starts to Panch Pokhari “five ponds” on the foot of Amphu Laptsa pass which is another pass to cross before Imjatse valley at Everest or Khumbu region. As the good walk progress walking on rocky moraines and then reaching a wide area at Upper Hongu Basin close to Kang Leyamura peak at 6,430 meters, and then following a rocky glacier towards a moraine area to reach the campsite beneath Amphu Labtsa pass at 5,780 meters.
Day 15:      Rest day at Panch Pokhari.
A necessary to have rest day after 3-4 days of hard walk and climb on rocks, ice and glaciers, this rest day allows you to regain your energy and strength back while our team of staff and guides will scout the next pass fixing ropes where necessary for the last crossing of this trip.
Day 16:      Cross Amphu Labtsa pass 5, 680m to Imjatse valley 4,970m.
Starting earlier to cross the last high pass of this adrenaline adventure with climb for an hour or more on rocks, moraine and icy slopes to reach the top of Amphu Labtsa offering stunning panorama of Lhotse South Face, Lhotse Shar and of Island / Imja-tse Peak, here a final inspection of the all the members, porters and staff in case of ill health and sickness due to altitude and tiredness which is common at this altitude. From here with rope fixed for safe descent to other side at Imjatse valley, descent of 150 meters on the gradual slopes below the pass. After a nice safe descent walk leads to an ablation valley of Imja glacier, on the Imjatse valley onto Khumbu / Everest area, after all the hard time this will be a pleasant walk to the first small settlement at Chukung for overnight stop in the comfort of nice cozy lodge.
Day 17:      Trek to Dingboche 4,340 m - 03 hrs.
From here back to human area and villages after being enclosed within high mountains in absolute wilderness, morning walk with a slow down hil in the Imjatse valley and few ups and down to reach at Dingboche the first village after more than week time with awesome scenery of Island peak, Ama Dablam and adjoining mountains, we have allowed a short day today after previous hard days, before Dingboche reaching  at a small place of Bibre between Chukung and Dingboche  from here an  hour or more leads to in the comfort of nice lodge at Dingboche village a popular place for trekkers with more than 20 good lodges.
Day 18:      Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m - 05 hrs.
Leaving Dingboche with super views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse wall, Lhotse, then heading on the downhill path and back to lower altitude and tree lines, the walk leads past Pangboche and from the bridge an hour or more climb brings you back to the famed Tyangboche Monastery with amazing surrounding scenery.
Day 19:      Trek to Monjo 2,880 m through Namche Bazaar - 06hrs.
Morning walk begins with a descend to Imjatse River at Phunge tenga, here after crossing the bridge a steep uphill for an hour then with gentle winding walk all the way to Namche Bazaar, ( for energetic people can use the route to Namche visiting Everest View Hotel or Khumjung and Khunde village) from Namche on the downhill path to Dudh Kosi River bank, from here with short ups and downs to reach the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then Monjo village for overnight stop in this quaint nice village.

Day 20:      Trek to Lukla - 05 hrs.
After a memorable trip to Everest base camp, today the last day walk of this fascinating journey, from here retrace the trail back to Lukla on the gradual winding trail passing Phakding and Ghat village then with the last uphill climb to Lukla for lunch and overnight stop, evening time enjoy the last meal with fellow trekkers, staffs and porters.
Day 21:      Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
From Lukla the flight starts early morning to Kathmandu, sometime the flight time can get delayed due to bad weather, as per the flight time board in the small plane for a super, scenic flight back to Kathmandu, on reaching at Katmandu domestic terminal our guide and staff transfer you back to respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu in and around Thamel area.
Day 22:      In Kathmandu with cultural tour at places of interest.
This day reserved a free day in case of flight delay in Lukla due to bad weather conditions, and one can join for sightseeing tour at leisure, depart hotel for few hours in our interesting cultural tour of heritage sites as Kathmandu valley is full of world heritage sites, however some of them been damaged from recent earthquake.
The  tour of holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath ( Little Tibet), Swayambhunath ( Monkey Temple) & monasteries, ancient Kings Palaces and courtyard in Kathmandu; after an interesting sightseeing back to the hotel, afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.
Day 23:      International departure for home ward bound.
After a great memorable time and experience with Solukhumbu Treks & Expedition, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
